HOUSTON - The University of Houston tennis team will play host to three matches this weekend, beginning with a noon tilt against St. Edward's on Saturday afternoon at John E. Hoff Courts. The Cougars will then play a Sunday doubleheader against No. 36 SMU (9:30 a.m.) and Prairie View A&M (3:00 p.m.).
Since key members of the Houston squad have returned to full health, the Cougars have reeled off six-consecutive wins to improve to 13-6 overall. Houston returned from a two-week layoff on Sunday to defeat Conference USA foe Southern Miss by a score of 5-2.
Several Cougars are currently riding significant winning streaks in singles play, led by senior Joanna Kacprzyk and freshman Dionne Sanders, who have each won seven-straight matches. Kacprzyk currently sits at 14-4 overall, including a 9-2 mark at the No. 5 position, while Sanders has improved to 9-6 overall.
Junior transfer Giorgia Pozzan has reeled off six-consecutive victories in dual play for a 13-5 overall record, while sophomore Bryony Hunter has won all five matches since returning from injury to improve to 9-5 this season.
With a 13-6 overall record, the Cougars have locked up their ninth-consecutive winning season, and are only three wins shy of ranking in the top 10 in program history for single-season victories.
