HOUSTON - University of Houston senior pitcher Amanda Crabtree was named the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week for the fifth time this season following another epic week in the circle.
Crabtree (17-7) threw a complete game shutout against No. 15 Baylor to earn the Cougars' sixth win of the season against a Top-25 program. The Kingwood, Texas native then powered the Cougars to a series win against C-USA's second-place Tulsa by throwing 15 scoreless innings over two appearances.
The senior continued to play the role of the Cougars' ace, appearing in four of the Cougars' five games this week. The senior leader made three starts en route to throwing 22.0 innings, including an 8.0-inning no decision in the series finale against Tulsa on Sunday. Crabtree went 2-1 on the week with a staggering 0.64 ERA and 37 strikeouts. The only runs she surrendered over the week came during her second game relief effort against the nationally ranked Bears.
Facing the lineup with the best batting average in C-USA, the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, Crabtree threw 15.0 scoreless innings, including her ninth complete-game shutout of the season in the Cougars' 2-0 series opening victory. After reaching the top ranking among NCAA pitchers in hits allowed per seven innings, Crabtree proved why as she allowed just two hits in each of her three starts this week.
The Kingwood, Texas native threw another 8.0 innings of scoreless work in the 11-inning series finale against Tulsa, striking out 11 and walking only two before leaving the game with a no-decision.
Crabtree ended the weekend with 291 strikeouts on the season. With nine regular season games remaining, Crabtree is just 22 strikeouts shy of tying Houston's single-season record held by Angel Shamblin (313).
