HOUSTON - The University of Houston track and field team completed the Texas State Invitational in San Marcos, Texas this weekend. Five Cougars won their event and 17 set personal bests.
The Houston long jumpers placed 1-2-3 with Jonathan Williams (7.43m/24-4.50), Lamar Delaney (7.43m/24-4.5) and Simon Stewart (7.27m/23-10.25).
John Fortune won his third shot put competition this year on the strength of his personal best toss of 16.50m/54-1.75. Rick Fenton (14.10m/46-3.25) and Ray Lian (13.17m/44-0.5) set personal bests in the event, placing third and fourth.
Fenton bettered two more of his marks in the discus (45.58m/149-6) and hammer throw (53.70m/176-2) to earn a pair of second-place finishes.
Kiara Pulliam won the women's shot put with her toss of 14.38m/47-2.25.
Senior Jason Perez showed why he is a three-time Conference USA 400m hurdle champion by taking another first place in the event.
Andres Santaolalla picked up his second win overall and first in the 3000m this year with his 8:51.28 finish.
Alysha Cook placed second in the 100m hurdles with a personal best 13.85 time.
Both women in the hammer throw bettered their marks with Nicole Benton (44.03m/144-5) and Morgan Swan (36.14m/118-7) placing third and fourth, respectively.
Benton added another third place finish in the discus throw (43.99m/144-4).
UP NEXT
The Cougars travel to Baton Rogue, Louis. for LSU Alumni Gold Invitational Saturday, April 23. A quick turnaround follows as Houston takes off for the Penn Relays before the Conference USA Outdoor Championships.
