Baseball Travels To Marshall For C-USA Weekend Series

HOUSTON - The University of Houston baseball team will head back on the road for Conference USA play this weekend as they travel to Charleston, W. Va., for a three-game series against the Marshall Thundering Herd at Power Park.
The Cougars are looking to continue their winning ways on the road in league play, after going 3-0 against Tulane, April 1-3.
Due to inclement weather in the Charleston area, the series will now begin at 3 p.m. CT Friday with a doubleheader against the Thundering Herd and conclude at 10 a.m. CT Sunday.

Houston is 17-18 this season and 4-2 in league play. Sophomore Chase Jensen leads the team with a .333 batting average, seven doubles, one triple and three home runs. Jensen and senior Caleb Ramsey lead the team with 33 and 34 RBIs, respectively.
Marshall is 11-18 this season and 1-5 in Conference USA play. Kenny Socorro leads the Thundering Herd with a .302 batting average, four doubles, one home run and 10 RBIs.
In the first game of Friday's doubleheader, junior Matt Creel will make the start opposite Aaron Blair. Creel is 4-4 this season in two starts and 13 appearances. He is posting a 6.10 ERA with 26 strikeouts. Blair is making his fourth start and is 0-2 this season with a 4.35 ERA.
In game two Friday, junior Jordan Lewis has been named the Cougars' starter. He is 3-1 in nine starts with a 4.14 ERA. Lewis has struck out 24 batters in a team-high 45.2 innings. Mike Mason will be making the start for Marshall in game two. Mason is 1-2 in seven starts with a 4.81 ERA.
Junior Mo Wiley will make the start in the series finale. He is 2-1 this season with a 4.01 ERA. Wiley has struck out 16 batters in 33.2 innings. Marshall's Arik Sikula will make his eighth start in the finale. Sikula is 2-3 with a 3.07 ERA. In 44 innings, he has struck out 42 batters.
UH has had a great deal of success against the Thundering Herd, posting a 15-3 all-time record. In their last trip to Charleston, the Cougars swept the series 3-0 in 2009.
UP NEXT
Following the series against Marshall, Houston will be back home for a three-game series against East Carolina. Due to Easter on April 24, the series against the Pirates will be held on April 21-23. The series will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, continue at 6:30 p.m. Friday and conclude at 1 p.m. Saturday.
