"I am anxious to see our team this month and to see how we react," head coach Jonathan Dismuke said. "We are a tight-knit bunch, and we travel well. It will be fun for a lot of the guys to get on the road. In the past, I may have been worried about chemistry. With the group that we have, we have great chemistry and are very supportive for one another."
A year ago, the Cougars finished 12th at this tournament. Jackie Lindsey led the Cougars with a score of 222 to tie for 28th place.
THE LINEUP
Freshmen Jesse Droemer, Curtis Reed, Wesley McClain and Bryn Flanagan join sophomore newcomer Will Dusenbury in the starting lineup after emerging in qualifying rounds.
Dusenbury fired a 219 in the spring season-opening Rice Intercollegiate on Feb. 21-22 to tie for 23rd place. The League City, Texas, native joined the Cougars at the semester break after transferring from Dallas Baptist.
Reed, Flanagan and McClain are the only Cougars who have competed in every tournament to date, while Droemer will be making his spring debut. McClain and Droemer rank 1-2 with six and five sub-par rounds, respectively, to date.
Despite being one of the nation's youngest teams with four freshmen and a sophomore in his first season with the program, Dismuke is pleased with the way his team his played to this point in the season.
"We worked very hard, and the guys are very ambitious. They want to be really good. I am pleased with their progress to this point," Dismuke said. "We are getting closer to where we want to be every day. We have had a lot of consistent performances. We are looking for a breakout performance and we will have opportunities to have that during the next three weeks."
UP NEXT
Following the Louisiana Classics, the Cougars waste little time in returning to action when they compete at the Seminole Intercollegiate on March 11-13 at Southwood Country Club in Tallahassee, Fla.
From there, the team will compete at the Desert Shootout (March 17-19, Goodyear, Ariz.) and play host at the Border Olympics (March 25-26, Laredo, Texas).
"This is the start of busy stretch for us. Our goal is always to constantly improve," said Dismuke, who is in his second season with the program. "We are just trying to get better at the things that we value."
