Cougars Rout Xavier for Fourth-Straight Victory

CINCINNATI, Ohio -The University of Houston tennis team claimed its fourth-consecutive victory with a 6-1 defeat of Xavier, Wednesday afternoon at Western Tennis and Fitness Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Cougars improved to 11-6 overall this season.
"We're glad to get out of spring break with a 4-0 record to meet our goal," said head coach John Severance. "We have a short break between returning home and playing again and we're very excited to get four tough wins on the road."
The Houston duo of Bryony Hunter and Dionne Sanders remained undefeated together with an 8-2 victory at the No. 2 position to lead off doubles play, while the Cougar tandem of Celia Fraser and Giorgia Pozzan triumphed at the top spot by a score of 8-4 to grab the match's opening point.
Joanna Kacprzyk opened singles action with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Kally Alkire at the No. 5 position, while Hunter followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Tifanie Treece at the No. 2 spot to put Houston up 3-0 in the match.
Pozzan clinched the contest for the Cougars with a 7-6(5), 6-1 defeat of Andrea Wolf at the No. 3 position for her 11th win of the spring season.
Maja Kazimieruk followed with a 7-6(0), 6-2 triumph over Kelsey Kinnard for her team-leading 13th win of the season, while Dionne Sanders scratched out her sixth-straight victory with a 5-7, 7-6(5), 11-9 thriller over Christie Pleiman at the bottom spot to round out the scoring.
The Cougars return to John E. Hoff Courts for the first time in 10 matches to play host to Arkansas-Little Rock at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.
