Volleyball Sets Spring Schedule

HOUSTON - The University of Houston volleyball program is in the middle of spring workouts and has recently finalized its spring competition schedule.
Head coach Molly Alvey and her team will play two matches on March 11, as well as participate in the Texas Pride Collegiate Invite on March 27. In addition, the Cougars will host Lamar on April 9 and travel to SMU on April 16.
The spring slate will kickoff March 11 against cross-town rival Rice and Lee College at the Athletics/Alumni Center. Houston will start the day against Lee College at 3 p.m. Following the match, the Lady Rebels will take on Rice. The Cougars will then close out the day against the Owls in a match that will start at approximately 5:45 p.m.
Admission to the matches on March 11 is free and open to the public.
The Cougars will then play in the Texas Pride Collegiate Invite at Slaters Sports Zone in Richmond, Texas. Teams scheduled to participate in the tournament include Baylor, Houston Baptist, Lamar Louisiana, LSU, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Rice, TCU, UTSA, Texas A&M, Tulane, Tulsa and Wichita State.
Houston will then return to the Athletics/Alumni Center for a match against Lamar at 2 p.m. April 9. Their final match of the spring schedule includes a trip to SMU April 16. Teams scheduled to make the trip to Dallas include Ole Miss and Oklahoma.
The volleyball team wrapped up its first season under Alvey in November. She guided the Cougars to a 19-13 overall record and a 13-7 mark in Conference USA, a significant improvement over a 9-23 mark in 2009 and a 6-10 C-USA record the same season.
The Cougars finished third in league action and posted the most conference wins since 1999. Lucy Charuk and Chandace Tryon went on to earn All-Conference USA First-Team honors, while Charuk was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association Midwest All-Region Team and All-America Honorable Mention.
