HOUSTON - Fans of the University of Houston softball team can expect a season full of entertainment and giveaways at Cougar Softball Stadium this season. The 2011 softball promotional schedule was unveiled Monday morning.
The first 500 fans to arrive for the Cougars' season opener on Feb. 11 will receive a free Houston softball schedule magnet. Houston is slated to face No. 8 Michigan at 5 p.m.
The following weekend, the Cougars will open the Houston Hilton Plaza Classic against No. 22 Oklahoma State on Feb. 18. The first 200 fans to the 3 p.m. game will receive the official Houston softball poster, while 20 fans will receive a signed poster from the entire 2011 team.
Several more giveaways are scheduled, including "Red Rage Day" on March 12. The first 50 fans to watch the Cougars take on Conference USA-foe UAB will receive the official Houston softball t-shirt.
Kids who participated in the Cougar softball camps last summer will receive free admission to the series finale against UAB on March 13, to help the team celebrate "Camper Reunion Day."
The popular "Daddy/Daughter Day" will take place on April 3, when the Cougars play host to Marshall. Dads and their little one can get into the game for only $10 - a special ticket package featuring one adult and one youth ticket. The family will be invited to take pictures on the field at Cougar Softball Stadium while enjoying other special promotions throughout the game.
All campus student organizations are invited to participate in "Student Organization Day" at the ballpark on April 12. One lucky member will be selected as "Most Spirited" and win the chance to call an inning of the game. While only one winner will be selected, all fans in attendance will enjoy $1 hot dogs. A Cougar Card Extravaganza will also take place during the game as multiple, rare Cougar Cards will be available to students.
On April 17, all members of Shasta's Squad - the official kid's club of Houston Athletics - will receive free admission with their membership card to watch Houston take on Tulsa. All members are also invited to a postgame party with Shasta.
Houston will host its Fifth-Annual Striking Out Breast Cancer game on April 20, when the Cougars play No. 19 Texas A&M. In honor of the cause, the team will wear pink jerseys and helmets that will be available for fans to bid on in a silent auction prior to and throughout the 6:30 p.m. game. All proceeds will be donated to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Houston Affiliate. To donate items to the auction, please contact head coach Kyla Holas at (713) 743-9339.

Fans are invited to bring their entire team, school or organization to Cougar Softball Stadium for a discounted ticket rate. Groups of 15 or more receive the Ultimate Game-Day Experience and are eligible for the following benefits: group recognition during the game, the opportunity to sing the fifth-inning stretch, standing with the team during the national anthem along with many opportunities to win free t-shirts throughout the game.
Groups from 15-49 can purchase tickets for only $4. Those bringing 50-99 in their party can buy tickets for $3. Parties of 100 or more can get the best deal at only $2 a ticket. For more information on group outings, call Greg Brungardt at (713)743-9452.
Season and Single-Game Tickets
Season tickets are on sale now. The package is only $75 and is good for all 26 home games. The season tickets are designed as a flex ticket package, meaning fans can use one ticket for each game or multiple tickets for a few games.
The Houston Athletics Ticket Office is offering various deals so fans can get in on the action, including the Grand Slam Package. For $24 fans can receive tickets to any four games on the schedule. A Softball Saturday Package is also available for $36. This will ensure attendance at all six Saturdays on the home schedule, including all games during the Cougars' two tournaments and both games of each Saturday doubleheader.
Single-game tickets go on sale Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 8 a.m.
All seats are general admission.
Tickets can be purchased at the Houston Athletics Ticket office in the Athletics/AlumniCenter, by phone at 713-GO-COOGS (462-6647) Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or online at www.UHCougars.com.
