HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball team traveled to Spring, Texas to host its final free clinic before turning its focus to the upcoming season, Saturday afternoon.
More than 175 girls ages 12 and under came out to the 2011 Spring Klein Girls Softball League (SKGSL) Players Clinic. Head coach Kyla Holas, her staff and the Cougars traveled to their complex to host the free clinic.
"This was another great day in the community for us," Holas said. "I'm glad the weather cleared up and we had such a good turnout. This is the last community service event for us before next weekend. Now we are ready to get focused on the last week of preparing for the season."
The Cougars worked on offensive and defensive drills, including base running and throwing, with the young players. Holas and her staff also held a coaches clinic. The girls, their families and the SKGSL community will return that support later this month as they have purchased more than 500 tickets to watch Houston take on LSU on Feb. 19.
Houston opens the season Friday, Feb. 11, against No. 8 Michigan on the first day of the Houston Hilton Plaza Invitational. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. at Cougar Softball Stadium.
