Pair Of Houston Volleyball Players Head To National Team Tryout

HOUSTON - University of Houston volleyball players Chandace Tryon and Stephanie Nwachukwu will travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., this weekend to participate in tryouts for the USA Women's National Team.
Up for grabs this weekend will be a spot on the USA Women's National Team for this summer to compete for a roster spot for the Pan American Cup and/or the World Cup roster. In addition, the pair will tryout for roster spots on the USA Senior A2 team that will compete in Dallas, May 23-June 1 at the US Open Championships.
A record 208 athletes are scheduled to participate in the open tryouts that will take place in the Sports Center II at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado. Among the participants 81 different colleges will be represented, including 57 outside hitters, 52 middle blockers, 46 liberos, 27 setters and 26 opposites.
The U.S. Women's National Team coaching staff includes Hugh McCutcheon (Christchurch, New Zeland) and assistant coaches Karch Kiraly (Sam Clemente, Calif.) and Paula Weishoff (Irvine, Calif.).
Tryon finished the 2010 season by being named an All-Conference USA First Team selection. She led the team and the league with a .353 hitting percentage, including 285 kills and 85 blocks. She started 29 matches and was named the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week during the season. Tryon was also named the Tournament MVP at the Nicholls Challenge.
Nwachukwu started 17 matches as a sophomore. She finished with a .209 hitting percentage and 260 kills, the third highest total on the team. Nwachukwu also had 72 blocks.
