HOUSTON -The University of Houston women's soccer team dropped a match to UTEP 6-3 Friday night at University Field in El Paso, Texas.
UTEP scored on the Miners first shot attempt in the sixth minute as Brittany Kindzierski one-timed a corner kick from Tori Martyn past Houston keeper Cami Koski, putting the Miners up 1-0. The Miners proceeded to score three more goals in the first half, taking a 4-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, after allowing two goals, Houston scored three strait goals late in the match bringing the Cougars within three. In spite of their efforts, the Cougars were unable to overcome the 6-0 deficit, dropping the match to UTEP 6-3.
In Houston's late offensive surge, Kayla Walker registered her first goal of the season in the 71st minute as she deflected in a Stephanie Derieg corner kick. In the 84th minute senior forward Jessica Zavalza scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season after putting one past UTEP keeper Sarah Dilling at point-blank range. Zavalza's score was followed by freshman Alexis Weaver, who scored the third and final goal for the Cougars in the 87th minute following a Kylie Cook free kick. Cook had two assists on the night.

Houston remains on the road as it travels to Colorado Springs, Colo., to face Colorado College at 1 p.m., Sunday.
