Jesse Droemer Named Conference USA Golfer of the Week

HOUSTON - After a career-best finish, University of Houston sophomore Jesse Droemer was honored Wednesday as the Conference USA Golfer of the Week.
Playing as an individual at the Houston Baptist Husky Invitational, Droemer earned a third-place finish with a 54-hole total of 209. The Sealy, Texas, native fired a career-low 67 in the opening round, besting his previous best of 70 done three times and most recently during the first round at the Louisiana Classics on March 7, 2011.
His 54-hole total also was a career low, besting his previous mark of 216 during the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic on Sept. 27-28, 2010.
Droemer's previous best finish was a tie for 12th, done twice and most recently at the Louisiana Classics.
With his stellar play, Droemer earned a place in the Cougars' starting lineup at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate, beginning Monday.
Memphis' Marissa Steen was honored as the C-USA Female Golfer of the Week.

The Cougars wrap up their fall season during the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate in Dallas on Oct. 31-Nov. 1. The two-day, 54-hole event will be hosted by Baylor and SMU at Royal Oaks Country Club.
The tournament features an impressive field, including Army, two-time defending NCAA national champion Augusta State, Baylor, Duke, Iowa, Lamar, Missouri, New Mexico, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, SMU, Texas A&M and Tulsa.
The event begins with 36 holes on Oct. 31, starting at 8:30 a.m., and wraps up with the final 18 holes at 8:30 a.m., Nov. 1.
