HOUSTON - The University of Houston soccer team returns home to face Southern Miss at 7 p.m. Friday before hosting Conference USA front-runner UCF at 1 p.m., Sunday. Both games will be held at Robertson Stadium.
"We look forward to returning home," senior forward Jessica Zavalza said. "We have to take advantage of our home field."
All four of Houston's wins this season took place in the city of Houston.
On the Cougars
After two tough matches against UTEP and Colorado College last weekend, Houston is now 4-10-0. The Cougars return home after four consecutive road games.
Houston vs. Southern Miss
The Golden Eagles fell to 3-9-3, following a 2-0 loss to Marshall on Sunday.
Freshman Conner McKie and junior Jordan Wagner attempted six shots, while senior keeper Hanna Vanderboegh registered 14 saves in the losing effort against Marshall.
Wagner has led the Golden Eagle offense this year as she has recorded a team-leading four goals on the season.
Houston enters the contest leading the all-time series with Southern Miss 9-0-3. The last meeting between the teams (Oct. 10, 2010) resulted in a 1-1 tie in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
Houston vs. UCF
The Knights (8-3-4) are ranked No. 23, as announced Soccer America following a victory over East Carolina on Sunday.
In their most recent action, UCF juniors Nicolette Radovcic and Tishia Jewell led the Knights to a 2-0 victory over East Carolina. The Knights are riding a five-game winning streak coming into the match against Houston.
In the goal for UCF, Senior Aline Reis registered fives saves, solidifying the shutout victory for the Knights.
Offensively, the Knights have three players with double-digit points. Juniors Tishia Jewell and Nicolette Radovocic, alongside senior Stacie Hubbard, combine for 43 points on the season.
Previous Outing
Houston dropped a 1-0 decision to Colorado College at Stewart Field Sunday.
Houston held Colorado College scoreless in the first half as goalkeeper Cami Koski picked up two saves against eight attempted shots by the Tigers.
In the second half, Lauren Digregorio scored the game-winning goal for the Tigers in the 47th minute following an assist by Kaeli Vandersluis.
Sydney George relieved Koski after a head injury in the second half. George recorded seven saves as she faced 17 shots on the day, allowing just one goal.
Houston was unable to generate quality scoring opportunities, as they were limited to eight shot attempts on the evening, while facing 25.
