Head Coach Todd Buchanan
On his initial thoughts after the Cougars' 78-59 win against Southern Miss
"I'm very proud and glad to be 3-0 in Conference USA. To say that I am not satisfied with the way we finished the game is maybe the understatement of the season thus far. Courtney (Taylor) coming back and having her 50th double-double of her career is absolutely incredible. She deserves everything she gets. She has put herself in a great position to be a great player. I couldn't be more proud of Lesslee (Mason) as well. She took over during three different segments of the game. She is really coming into her own. I am really proud of both of them and really proud to get the win."
On trying to get senior forward Lesslee Mason more involved
"It depends on the game and depends on the opponent. On the other side, we were always trying to get her the ball."
On the guard play
"Our guards haven't played very well. At SMU we were very in-and-out with it. Part of that was due to Porsche (Landry) being hurt. At times tonight, our guard play was good at best.
"It was sloppy. That is the adjective I would use. There were times when we made decisions that were very poor. Our decision making has to be better from our guards. We just can't put ourselves in that position continuously this season if we truly want to be a C-USA Champion and go to the NCAA Tournament."
Senior Forward Courtney Taylor
On how the Cougars finished the game
"It's another win but I'm not satisfied how we finished. We need to learn how to push it up when we have the lead."
On the bench players getting playing time and more experience
"As the starters we have to push ourselves more so we can give the girls coming off the bench more experience. It's not just on them to compete, but on us as well, to help them out and give them that opportunity."
Senior Forward Lesslee Mason
On dominating in the paint on Thursday
"Coach put in a different kind of offense for this game. Post players were mismatched today, and they put more emphasis on getting us the ball this game."
On being 3-0 in Conference USA
"I'm very excited and I know this is only the beginning. I just want the team to come out, play hard and take it game-by-game."
On which aspects of her game are different this season
"Compared to last season I was a lot more passive. Last year I got to gel with my teammates and having all five starters back has been great for this year. We all know each other really well. It has made us that much better for this season."
