The University of Houston women's tennis team got off on the right foot in its first tournament of the year, picking up a doubles title in the Islander Open as Bryony Hunter and Giorgia Pozzan defeated Rice's duo of Kimberly Anicete and Varsha Shiva-Shankar, 8-6, at Rice University Thursday night.

Inclement weather during the first day of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's fall tournament over the weekend pushed back play throughout the weekend. When doubles teams from Rice and UH came out of the semifinals, a determination was made Monday to play the finals back in Houston.

Hunter and Pozzan now turn their attention to each other as the pair face off in the tournament's singles finals to be played at UH's home courts on Saturday.
