HOUSTON - Former University of Houston pitcher Brad Lincoln will be making his first start in Major League Baseball in the city of Houston Tuesday night when the Pittsburg Pirates play the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park.
Lincoln made his MLB debut on June 8, 2010 against the Washington Nationals. Since then he has made five starts and holds a 1-2 record with a 4.65 ERA. In addition, he is 3-for-8 at the plate with an RBI.
A Cougar letterwinner from 2004-06, Lincoln became the first player in UH and Conference USA history to be named the National Player of the Year. He was selected by the Pirates as the fourth overall selection of the 2006 draft, becoming the first Houston and C-USA player to be taken in the Top 10 picks of the draft.
Lincoln will be pitching against former Cougar letterwinner Michael Bourn, who was recently named a National League All-Star selection as a reserve outfielder. As the Astros leadoff hitter, Bourn is batting .260 with 17 doubles and leads the league with 25 stolen bases. Last season he was named a Golden Glove recipient.
Bourn played for the Cougars from 2001-2003. He still holds the freshman and sophomore single season records for stolen bases with 35 and 32, respectively. His 55 runs scored and 50 walks are also still freshman records.
First pitch for Tuesday's game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and the game will air on Fox Sports Network.
