Following a standout freshman season on the court for the Cougars, Bryony Hunter of the University of Houston tennis team has been selected by the Conference USA office as a Third Team All-Conference singles performer.
A rookie from Harlow, England, Hunter became the top player for the Cougars during the 2010 season, pacing the squad from the No. 1 singles position. She finished with a 13-6 record this spring, which included a 12-6 mark in the top singles match where she was paired against opponents' best players.
Hunter was also a candidate for C-USA Freshman of the Year, which was awarded to Shahzoda Hatamova of SMU on Thursday.
Houston has had at least one tennis student-athlete named All-Conference USA each of the six seasons head coach John Severance has guided the program. Both Hunter and 2009 Third Team All-Conference USA honoree Joanna Kacprzyk will return for the Cougars next season as the young team prepares to improve on its 11-8 record this spring.
