Ten Cougars Advance to NCAA Championships

The University of Houston track and field team wrapped up competition at the NCAA Regionals in Austin, Texas with six individual performers and two relay teams qualifying for the 2010 NCAA Championships.
The top 48 entries for each event qualified for the preliminary races in the West Region. The top 12 finishers in each preliminary event from each region advance to the NCAA Championships, scheduled for June 9-12 in Eugene, Ore., at host Oregon's Hayward Field. The heptathlon and decathlon athletes advance directly to the NCAA Championships based on their performances from the season. Wesley Bray will represent the Cougars at nationals in the decathlon.
Christie Jones and Kalyn Floyd finished fourth and sixth in the 200m to earn their shot at the NCAA Championships. The Texas natives crossed the finish at 23.16 and 23.51 respectively to become the only Cougars that will compete against each other at the NCAA Championships.
Grecia Bolton placed 10th in the 100m dash (11.54) to qualify for the NCAA Championships for the second year in a row. Bolton took 12th place last year in the 200m dash en route to her Freshman All-American honor.
All three of the NCAA Championship qualifying women teamed up with Whitney Harris to finish third in the 4x100 meter relay in 43.82 - just a tenth of a second off the UH program's record.
Conference USA Freshman of the Year Errol Nolan turned in a seventh place finish in the 400m with his finish of 45.59 to qualify for the national meet.
Nolan teamed with Isiah Sweeney, Tyron Carrier and Joesph Irabor to earn another seventh place finish (39.89) and qualification for the 4x100meter relay team.
Two-time defending C-USA triple jump champion Chris Carter returns to the NCAA Championships after placing 10th in 2009.The junior from Hearne, Texas qualified after finishing seventh with a distance of 15.98m (52-05.25).
