Two Cougars Named to Conference USA Softball All-Academic Team

HOUSTON - Coinciding with the opening day of the Conference USA Championship, the league announced the 2010 C-USA Softball All-Academic Team. Among the honorees were Houston's junior Katy Beth Sherman and redshirt sophomore Jennifer Klinkert.
Sherman received the honor after earning a cumulative 3.93 GPA. The starting outfielder has not only played every inning this year, she has also shown dedication in the classroom, completing a degree in communications in just three years. Sherman received her first league academic honor last season when she was named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll. The Waller, Texas native ended the regular season with a .260 batting average with 154 and 40 hits, collecting 28 runs, 5 doubles, three triples and 51 total bases.
Pursuing a degree in nutrition, Klinkert also earned a cumulative 3.93 GPA . The Chino, Calif., native is a two-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll honoree and Academic Medalist. She joins Sherman as one of only four Cougars to play every inning this season, ending the regular campaign with a .228 batting average, tallying 24 runs, 31 hits, 29 RBI and 59 total bases.
The duo will join the rest of the Cougars as they take on No. 4 seed UAB in game four of the C-USA Softball Championship at Cougar Softball Stadium at 7 p.m. Thursday night.
