Baseball Continues Home Stand Tuesday Against Texas A&M

HOUSTON - The University of Houston baseball team continues its eight-game home stand Tuesday night when it hosts Texas A&M at 6:30 p.m. at Cougar Field.
The Cougars are looking to rebound after losing the final two games of a three-game series to Tulane over the weekend. Houston stands at 20-26 on the season and 7-11 in Conference USA play.
Texas A&M enters the contest with a 28-28-1 record, while the Aggies are 9-11-1 in Big 12 action. They played a non-conference series against Dallas Baptist over the weekend, finishing 2-1.
Tuesday's game marks the 163rd overall meeting between the two schools. Houston is 54-107-1 in those games. The Cougars won the last meeting, 9-2, in College Station last season. Mo Wiley earned the pitching win in the game, going 5.1 scoreless innings allowing three hits and striking out a then-career-high six batters. Chris Wallace and Blake Kelso each hit home runs in the game.
Barry Laird will be making the start in Tuesday's meeting. He is 1-0 in his senior season, earning the win against Lamar, April 28. Laird also made the start against Lamar on April 21. He has pitched 14.2 innings, allowing 16 runs with 14 strikeouts. For Texas A&M, Michael Wacha has been named the starter. He is 5-2 this season with a 2.47 ERA. In 76.2 innings, he has allowed 25 runs with 76 strikeouts.
At the plate, Caleb Ramsey and Zak Presley lead Houston with a .357 batting average. Ramsey paces the team with 12 doubles, three triples, two home runs and 33 RBIs. Presley has four doubles, a triple and three home runs, including 23 RBIs.
Brodie Greene leads the Aggies with a .365 batting average with 12 doubles, seven triples and seven home runs. His 36 RBIs is a team-high.
UP NEXT
Houston will host its final C-USA series of the season, May 14-16, against Marshall at Cougar Field. Prior to Saturday's contest, the Cougars will honor the four members of the senior class.
The home finale is slated for 6:30 p.m. against Rice on May 18. It is also the final game of the Silver Glove Series.
