Softball Set to Host Weekend Series Against Memphis

HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball team is set to host Conference USA opponent Memphis in a three-game series at Cougar Softball Stadium April 10-11. The series gets underway with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m., with the second game scheduled for 3 p.m. The series will conclude with Sunday's game at noon.
Houston (20-19, 5-7 C-USA) looks to continue its wining streak after sweeping Tuesdays' doubleheader against Prairie View A&M in a combined 30-0 shutout.
Junior Angela Spittler leads the Cougars with team-highs in batting average (.328) and walks (19). Freshman Ashleigh Jones also leads the Cougar offense with 130 at bats, 42 hits and two triples.
Memphis (19-13, 6-5 C-USA) is looking to win its second straight C-USA series, after defeating Marshall 2-1 on April 2-3.
Senior Leigh Rowan leads the way for the Tigers with team-highs in batting average (.340), hits (33), homeruns (5) and RBI (19). Junior Maddie McKinley also leads the Tigers with 19 runs and seven doubles.
The Cougars lead in the all-time series record, 8-5, but the Tigers won the last three games when they swept the Cougars in last year's series at Tiger Softball Complex.
Following the series against Memphis, Houston will hit the road to face Tulsa in a three-game series on April 17-18. The first game begins Saturday at 1 p.m., followed by the second at 3 p.m. The series concludes with Sunday's game at noon.
