Baseball Hosts Sam Houston State Tuesday

HOUSTON - The University of Houston baseball team returns to Cougar Field for a four-game home stand Tuesday night, when they host Sam Houston State in a mid-week match-up that's slated to start at 6:30 p.m.

The Cougars (12-14; 2-4 C-USA) dropped three games over the weekend to cross-town rival Rice at Reckling Park and will look to bounce back against the Bearkats, who are 12-16 on the year.
Michael Goodnight is expected to earn the start on the mound Tuesday. He is 3-3 this season with a 4.63 ERA in seven appearances. In 35 innings, Goodnight has given up 18 earned runs with a team-high 40 strikeouts.
Zak Presley paces the Cougars at the plate with a .347 batting average. He has hit a double, triple and two home runs with 11 RBIs this season.
Tuesday night's game is the first of two meetings between Houston and Sam Houston State. The Cougars will travel to Huntsville, Texas for a second game on April 27. The series is currently tied 73-73 after the Bearkats won both meetings last season.
Chris Andreas leads the Bearkats with a .388 batting average. He has six doubles and three home runs to go along with his 20 RBIs. On the mound, Justin Jackson is posting a team-low 3.08 ERA in 38 innings of work, with 13 earned runs and 28 strikeouts.

Houston will continue its home stand on April 9-11 against TCU. Friday and Saturday's games will start at 6:30 p.m., with the finale on Sunday at 1 p.m.
