HOUSTON - Each week during the 2010 season, the University of Houston baseball team will feature one member of its team as the Player of the Week. The goal of having a Player of the Week is to give fans a chance to get to know the Cougars off the field.
This week's featured player is junior utility player Matt Murphy. The Pearland, Texas, native is a two-year letterwinner at Houston. He has seen action at first base and at designated hitter in his junior season. Murphy has six RBIs and eight hits this season. As a sophomore, Murphy, hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Houston a win over Kansas State on Feb. 22.

Why did you come to Houston?
Because it was close to home.
What is your favorite part about the game?
Being able to hit.
What has been your favorite moment in a Cougar uniform?
Hitting the walk-off hit against Kansas State last season.
What is your major and why did you choose it? What are your plans after UH?
I am a consumer science and merchandising major.
What is one food you can't live without?
Chicken Fried Steak

Pete Rose because he was a hard-nosed ball player.

Football because it is the ultimate team sport.
