New Orleans Defeats Women's Tennis, 4-0

NEW ORLEANS - The University of Houston tennis team dropped lost its second consecutive match Saturday, as the Cougars were defeated 4-0 by New Orleans.
UNO won the doubles point to give the Pirates the lead, winning both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches. Kozue Matsumoto and Cassandra Escobar beat juniors Elena Kazakova and Joanna Kacprzyk 8-6 at the No. 1 spot, and Ceara Howey and Amber Garza defeated freshmen Bryony Hunter and Maja Kazimieruk 8-2 in the No. 2 spot. Houston did pick up the win at the No. 3 spot, as junior Laura Ring and senior Neila Starratt beat Sofija Karalic and Kristina Martic 8-7.
In singles play, UNO took the win in the top singles match as Matsumoto downed Hunter 6-1, 6-2, while Escobar defeated Kazakova by the same score, at the No. 2 spot. The win was decided for the Pirates as Ring fell to Howey in the No. 4 singles match, 6-3, 6-1.
In the three remaining matches, Houston was leading but the contests could not be completed. In the No. 3 singles match, Kacprzyk was ahead of Martic 7-5, 3-2, while Kazimieruk was winning 6-3, 4-3 at the No. 5 spot, and Starratt was up 6-4, 1-0 at the No.6 spot.
Next up is UALR, where the Cougars will take to the courts at 10 a.m.
