Softball Travels To Birmingham To Face UAB

HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball team heads to Birmingham, Ala., to take on Conference USA opponent UAB in a three-game series at UAB Softball Field. The series gets underway with a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 4 p.m., with the second game scheduled for 6 p.m. The series will conclude with Saturday's game at 11 a.m.
Houston (18-16, 5-4 C-USA) looks to rebound from its back-to-back losses to Louisiana-Lafayette and to notch its first road victory of the season as the team is 0-8 away from Cougar Softball Stadium.
Freshman Ashleigh Jones leads the Cougars, batting .328 with a team-high 116 at bats, 38 hits and two triples. Sophomore Melissa Gregson also leads the Cougar offense with 21 RBI and 20 runs.
UAB (17-9, 3-3 C-USA) is looking to win its second straight C-USA series, after defeating Marshall 2-1 March 19-20.
Senior Martina Landrum leads the way for the Blazers with team-highs in batting average (.407), runs (22) and hits (35). She also has six doubles, two triples and three homeruns.
The Cougars lead in the all-time series record, 20-7, and are on a nine-game win streak against the Blazers.
Following the series at UAB, Houston will return to Cougar Softball Stadium to face Prairie View A&M in a doubleheader on April 6. The first game will begin at 4 p.m., followed by the second at 6 p.m.
