San Francisco, Calif. - With a 3-2 loss to San Francisco on Tuesday afternoon, the University of Houston baseball team snapped a six-game win streak and dropped their record to 8-6.

The Cougars also fall to 2-2 all-time against the Dons.

Houston opened the game scoring in its first at bat but from that point on runs became hard to put together for the Cougars. Joel Ansley started things off for UH with a single down the left field line. M.P. Cokinos and Chris Wallace then loaded the bases on back-to-back walks before Austin Gracey's sacrifice fly to center field scored the first Cougar runner.

In the home half of the inning, the Dons also loaded the bases on two walks and a single to right field with one out before UH pitcher Taylor Hammack nicked Ryan Lipkin in the foot to send in a San Francisco runner to even the score. Jared Denham of the Dons then hit a two run double to left field to jump out to a 3-1 lead.

After three scoreless innings, Houston cut the deficit to one as Austin Gracey plated Joel Ansley with an RBI single to center field but that would be all the run support the Cougars could put together in the loss.

Ansley led all Cougar batters, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Taylor Hammack earned the start for the Cougars, going five innings while surrendering five hits with five strikeouts. He was one shy of tying his single-game high for strikeouts. Barry Laird faced two batters in the sixth inning before Tanner Shiflett came in to close out the contest. He did not allow a run on two hits.

Houston will be back on the field tomorrow for a 4:30 p.m. contest against California before heading to Arizona State for a three-game series on March 19-21.
