Golf Ready to Go at Bulldog Classic

CHOUDRANT, La. - After taking a week off from competitive action, the University of Houston golf team returns to action Monday when it takes part at the Bulldog Classic.
The 54-hole event begins at 8 a.m., Monday with the first 36 holes before wrapping up with the final 18 holes Tuesday morning.
The Cougars join a competitive field on the par-72, 7,105-yard course at Squire Creek Country Club that includes Austin Peay, Centenary, Jacksonville State, Kansas, McNeese State, Missouri State, New Orleans, Nicholls State, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Rice, Southeastern Louisiana, Stephen F. Austin, UT Arlington and host Louisiana Tech.
The Cougars enter the Bulldog Classic after finishing 12th at the Louisiana Classics last week. That marked the end of 108 holes of golf over five days in two locations more than 500 miles apart for the Cougars.
Two days before teeing off at the Louisiana Classics, the Cougars finished 12th at the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas.
Senior Jackie Lindsey led the Cougars at the Louisiana Classics, finishing in a tie for 28th with a score of 222 after shooting 74 for three straight rounds.
Junior Matt Eschenburg tied with Lindsey and posted career-low 70s in back-to-back rounds to open the tournament.
Lindsey and Eschenburg are a close 1-2 in scoring average on the Cougars this season. Eschenburg tops the team with a 75.43 average, while Lindsey stands second at 75.52.
Junior Clark Mitzner - who ranks third on the team at 75.80 -- and freshman Jordan Rumora are scheduled to compete and join junior Justin Kaplan, who will be making his first appearance as a Cougar after transferring from Minnesota at the semester break.
