HOUSTON - University of Houston junior Clark Mitzner recently was honored as the Conference USA Male Co-Golfer of the Week for the second time this month.
Mitzner tied for third place at the J.L. Lewis Intercollegiate, hosted by Texas State at The Bandit Golf Club in New Braunfels, Texas. Battling temperatures in the mid-30s and winds gusting to 20 mph, he posted a 145 (73-72) to help lead the Cougars to their third top-five finish in the last four events.
The McKinney, Texas, native birdied three of four holes during one stretch to finish the first round at 2-over-par 73 and stand in a tie for 10th place through the first 18 holes.
He bettered his final standing by seven places with a 72 in the final round, overcoming a slow start to record two birdies with an eagle on the par-5 17th hole.
Earlier this month, Mitzner earned his first C-USA weekly honor after winning the Cougars' own Redstone Challenge.
Rice's Michael Buttacavoli, who tied with Mitzner at the J.L. Lewis Intercollegiate, shared the league's weekly honor. East Carolina's Abby Bools was named the C-USA Female Golfer of the Week.
