Days after winning his first collegiate tournament, University of Houston junior Clark Mitzner recently was honored as the Conference USA Golfer of the Week.
Mitzner helped lead the Cougars to a second-place finish at their own Redstone Challenge. The McKinney, Texas, native carded a career-low 4-under-par 68 en route to medalist honors at the 18-hole event.
It was the second sub-par round of his career.
Mitzner collected the first Golfer of the Week honor of his career and the second by a Cougar this season. Junior Matt Eschenburg received the weekly honor on Oct. 7, 2009.
SMU's Tia Gannon was recognized as the C-USA Female Golfer of the Week.

Mitzner and his Cougar teammates return to action Monday when they compete at the 10th Annual Rice Intercollegiate presented by Srixon. The Cougars join 14 other teams on the par-72, 7,184-yard course at Westwood Golf Club.
The 54-hole event begins at 8:15 a.m., Monday, with 36 holes to be played that day. The final 18 holes tee off at 8:15 a.m., Tuesday.
This will be the second straight season that the Cougars will compete at this event. A year ago, the Cougars finished fourth as Ben Moser led the way with a third-place individual finish.
