HOUSTON - The University of Houston women's basketball team returns to action at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday night to play host to UTSA at Hofheinz Pavilion.
Houston bounced back from Tuesday's loss at TCU with a 72-62 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday. The Cougars have won five of the first six contests this season for only the 10th time in program history.
Brittney Scott carried Houston with a season-high 29 points off a career-best seven 3-pointers on 11 attempts. Porsche Landry chipped in 15 points and seven assists, while Lesslee Mason added nine points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four blocks.
Scott buried two huge 3-point buckets in the second half, the first coming at the 15:39 mark to halt a 15-2 Corpus Christi run that cut the Houston lead to three points. The Islanders made a final charge to push the deficit back to six points before Scott struck again with a long-range bomb to put the contest out of reach.
ABOUT UTSA
The Roadrunners are 3-4 this season and coming off consecutive losses to Davidson and Texas Tech. UTSA returns four starters from last year's squad that went 16-14 overall and 10-6 in Southland Conference play.
Amber Gregg and Ashley Gardner are scoring in double figures through the opening seven contests with 12.7 and 11.9 points per game, respectively, while Alysse Davis is pulling down 8.0 rebounds to go with 9.7 points per game. Sophomore Jermini Malone is the top reserve off the bench, dishing out 4.7 assists in 25.9 minutes.
SERIES HISTORY
The Cougars and Roadrunners met for the first time last season since 2001, as Houston posted a 74-53 victory in San Antonio. UH held a one-point lead over the Roadrunners at the half before putting together a 20-2 run out of the break to put the contest out of reach. Courtney Taylor produced a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Brittney Scott added 17 points.
Houston has won all 16 contests against UTSA, including an 8-0 mark at Hofheinz Pavilion. The two teams have only met twice in the last 19 seasons.
UP NEXT
The Cougars take an 11-day break following Tuesday's contest before returning to action at the Duel in the Desert Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev., on Dec. 16-18. Houston will then return home on Dec. 28 to play host to No. 12 Georgetown.
