HOUSTON - The Houston soccer team is set for semifinal action tonight against the second seeded Memphis Tigers. The kickoff is set at 4 p.m. with the other semifinal matchup between SMU and UCF slated for a 6:30 time slot.
Houston defeated Marshall 3-0 in the opening round of the Conference USA Championships as the number three seed.
Sami Sackos, Lauri Byrne and Jessica Zavalza provided the scoring for the Cougars while Cami Koski and the backline defense preserved their league-best 11th shutout of the season.
The Cougars (12-4-4) and Tigers (13-3-3) matched up earlier this year in Memphis and both teams came away with the draw after a 1-1 double overtime game.
Kaci Bush provided the equalizing goal off a corner kick after a long weather delay sent the team ducking for cover due to the lightning and thunder storms in the area.
Houston holds a 6-5-1 record against the Tigers in their history. Both teams won all their games in consecutive win streaks with Houston taking the first six matches. The draw on Oct. 24 earlier this year ended the Cougars five-game slide against Memphis.
The semifinals will be streamed through the C-USA and University of Houston All-Access package. Conference USA's official website, www.ConferenceUSA.com, will provide updates, box scores, recaps and photos from all five matches.
The championship is set for Sunday, Nov. 7, at 2 p.m. (EST) and will be aired on the CBS College Sports Network.
