HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball team announced changes to its winter camp schedule Tuesday afternoon.
The Cougar General Skills Winter Camp originally scheduled for Sat., Dec. 4 will now take place Sat., Dec. 11 at the Cougar Softball Field. The new date will still cater to younger softball players, ranging from 8-14 years old and not yet in high school. The High School General Skills Winter Camp will remain on Sun., Dec. 5.
On Dec. 5, high school players will focus on the advanced skills of offense and defense, paying attention to the details because head coach Kyla Holas and her staff believe that it's the little things that make the difference. Campers will experience the everyday drills that a Division I college softball player endures.
During the Dec. 11 camp, the younger participants will cover all of the basics and fundamentals of the game. Drills will center around offense (hitting, slapping, bunting and base running), defense (throwing, catching and position play) and game-like situations.
Each camp costs $85 to attend and will run from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Those interested can register online at CougarSoftballCamp.com or by contacting assistant coach Abbie Sims at 713-743-9304.
