HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball program will welcome Grapeland, Texas native, Summer Groholski to the team for the 2011-12 season.
Groholski has posted a 45-20 record with 577 strikeouts in 387 innings pitched in her three years as a varsity player for the Grapeland High School Sandies under head coach David Reynolds.
"We are looking for Summer to be the type of pitcher that dominates hitters," head coach Kyla Holas said. "She brings some raw materials that we are hoping mature into a real threat on the mound. She has had to grow and grow over the course of the time since her commitment and we hope she sees what capabilities lie within her."
After her junior season, she was named an All-State Pitcher by the Texas Sports Writers Association (TSWA) and an All-State Pitcher by the Texas Girls Coaches Association. Groholski was also recognized as an All-East Texas Team Pitcher and the District MVP. These honors came after a 23-5 record with 351 strikeouts and a 0.40 ERA. She also had success at the plate, batting .518 with three home runs and 36 RBI.
Following her sophomore season with a 1.66 ERA, Groholski was again named an All-Brazos Valley Area Pitcher and an All-District Pitcher. Her awards were fueled by a 15-10 record with 152 strikeouts in 142 innings pitched.
The accolades followed a freshman season where Groholski accepted All-Brazos Valley Area Pitcher and All-District Pitcher honors for the first time. As a rookie, she finished 7-5 with 74 strikeouts in 57 innings pitched and a 1.47 ERA.
