HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball program will welcome Katy, Texas native, Kayla Holland to the team for the 2011-12 season.
Holland will start her fourth year on the varsity level for the Cypress Springs Panthers and head coach Walt Mangan. Upon finishing her junior season, Holland was named to the All-District 17-5A Infielder First Team, finished as the runner-up for the Cypress Springs Scholar Athlete of the Year and earned the CSHS MVP softball team honors for the second-straight season.
"Kayla is the big time player in a small package," head coach Kyla Holas said. "She finds a way to do more than she should every time I see her play. She has a great knowledge of this sport and such a commitment level that we are excited for her to be a Cougar and leader in this signing class."
In her sophomore season, Holland was named a Second-Team All-District Infielder. She also had her first round of team MVP and Cypress Springs Scholar Athlete of the Year runner-up accolades.
As a freshman, she was named Second Team All-District Infielder and Cy Springs Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Outside of Cy Springs, Kayla competed for the Cy-Fair Intruders, serving as the team captain for the last two seasons. She also made the U-18 Gold Team at the age of 14. She competed in the U-18 Gold ESPN tournament in California and the Gold Nationals in Georgia with the Houston Power team.
