HOUSTON - The Houston soccer team tied Memphis 1-1 in double overtime after two weather delays prolonged the game for 105-minutes.
Memphis jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a goal off a shot rebound in the 11th minute.
Thunderstorms in the area halted the game's progress from that point and after battling the elements and the Tigers, Houston secured the equalizer in the 60th minute.
Kaci Bush scored her second goal of the season off a corner kick. Jasmine Martinez provided the assist for her second of the year.
For only the second time this year, Houston found itself being outshot by the opposition. The Cougars held the slight edge in corner kicks and the set piece provided crucial for the team to keep pace with the second-place Tigers.
"It was a total team effort to stay focused and compete today," said head coach Susan Bush. "It was a very long day and we were able to get the draw. We have some more work to do this week as we prepare for Rice, our last game before the Conference USA Championship begins so it'll be important for us to keep this focus moving forward."
Houston (11-4-3, 6-2-2) escapes the last true road trip standing in third place in the conference standings and needs a win against Rice next week coupled with a Memphis loss to UAB to secure a bye in the first round of the C-USA Championship.
The top six teams from conference play compete for an automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Championship.
The Cougars ended their five game losing-streak to the Tigers with the draw.
