HOUSTON - The University of Houston women's tennis team returns to action at the USTA/ITA Texas Regional, hosted at the Baylor Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.
The tournament, which will feature top talent from around the region, begins on Friday and runs through Monday. The singles draw consists of 128 players, and the winner and runner-up of the main draw, as well as the winning doubles team, will automatically qualify for the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships on Nov. 4-7 in Flushing, N.Y.
"We're excited to go out and compete against the ranked teams in our region to see how we measure up," said head coach John Severance.
The Cougars have enjoyed a successful fall season, claiming three individual titles in two tournaments played. Sophomore Maja Kazimieruk earned the singles title in her respective flight in Houston's last action at the Rice Invitational. Bryony Hunter and Giorgia Pozzan kicked off the season by claiming the doubles title at the Islander Open, while both advanced to the singles final before play was canceled.
Pozzan, a junior transfer from Lacchiarella, Italy, leads the squad with a 6-1 mark in singles play and has teamed up with Hunter to win five of their six matches in doubles action.
