HOUSTON - The University of Houston volleyball team will travel to Huntsville, Texas for a 7 p.m. match against Sam Houston State on Tuesday at Johnson Coliseum.
The Cougars will look to get back in the win column after dropping three matches over the weekend at the Arizona Wildcat Classic.
After posting a double-digit kill performance against Nevada in their closing game of the Wildcat Classic, Kinsey Cave leads all Cougars with 76 kills, while both Amanda Carson and Marluci Toazzi rank second with 36 kills. Tara Roenicke leads the Cougars with 204 assists and the team is posting 34 total blocks.
This will be the 38th meeting all-time between the two programs, with Houston holding a commanding 33-4 lead in the all-time series. Last season, Houston swept the Bearkats, 3-0, in the Cougars home opener at the Athletics/Alumni Center.
Sam Houston State is 4-4 on the season. They opened the year with four wins, before dropping their last four matches, including two to UH Conference USA opponents Rice and Southern Miss.
Carli Kolbe leads Sam Houston State with 114 kills on a .243 hitting percentage. Setter Kym Loving paces the Bearkats with 278 assists. As a team, SHSU is out-blocking their opponents 59.5 to 56.
The match against the Bearkats will mark a quick trip to Houston's home state before they head back to the east coast on Sept. 11-12 for the Loyola Marymount Crowne Plaza LAX Tournament.
