Football Playoff Bracket Created by Sports Illustrated
9/28/2009 12:00:00 AM | Football
Sports Illustrated has released a hypothetical major college football playoff bracket in which University of Houston is ranked No. 9, and would face No. 8 Oklahoma in the first round of playoffs.
This season has already produced a number of noticeable upsets to many of the top-ranked teams, turning attention to many emerging teams, which has sparked off a debate to introduce a playoff system for college football.
The system involves 14 college football writers, editors and producers at Sports Illustrated who will each vote weekly for 16 teams to receive berths in the playoff brackets and therefore receive points assigned to their rankings (16 points for No.1, 15 points for No.2, etc).
The hypothetical No.9 ranking for Houston comes from a very impressive start to the season by the Cougars, after traveling to Stillwater to defeat OSU, who was ranked No.5 at the time. Houston followed this up by defeating Texas Tech this weekend at home in front of a record crowd of 32,114 at Robertson Stadium. The next game for Houston is away against UTEP on Oct.3.
