Volleyball Opens Conference USA Play This Weekend

Houston - The University of Houston volleyball team opens Conference USA play this weekend as they travel to UAB and Memphis. The Cougars will look to rebound after finishing 1-2 at the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack Invitational.
Houston (3-12, 0-0 C-USA) takes to the court on Sept. 25 against UAB at 6 p.m. The Blazers enter the weekend 7-8, after a three-match losing streak including a loss to Middle Tennessee on Tuesday. The Cougars are 15-2 all-time against the Blazers and UH has won three of the last four matches.
The road stand continues against Memphis (2-12) on Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. The Tigers are on a five-match losing streak coming into this weekend. The Cougars are 19-8 all-time against Memphis and hold a 7-5 record versus them since the two teams became C-USA rivals.
The Blazers and Tigers faced off on Sept. 17 during the opening weekend of league action in Memphis with the Blazers winning the match 3-2.
Houston defeated both teams in 2008 on their way to a 10-6 record in conference play. The Cougars also finished fourth in the league standing last season. The Cougars are 9-4 in their C-USA openers since joining the league in 1996.
Following the weekend on the road, the Cougars will return to the Athletic/Alumni Center Oct. 2-3 to face Tulane and UTEP, respectively. This matches will be Houston's first action at home since Aug. 29 and it opens a five-match home stand.
