HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball team completed its first week of fall practice Friday afternoon.
The Cougars began in the weight room Monday, Sept. 14 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. before moving to the Cougar Softball Stadium for its first team practice on the field.
"The first days have gone as planned," head coach Kyla Holas said. "We're happy to have the weather cooperate to some degree. The team is trying to make the adjustments quickly to our style of fundamentals."
In preparation for this week, the coaching staff met with the girls for a series of individual workouts, beginning Aug. 27, to develop their pitching and hitting techniques.
"We will scrimmage today and have a better picture of our lineup then," Holas said "We're trying to touch on all the necessary details before next weeks opening games."
The Cougars are set to compete in the Sugarland College Classic Sept. 26-27 where they will face San Jacinto College and Texas State on Saturday before squaring off against Blinn College and Galveston College on Sunday.
Houston will then travel to Spring, Texas for the Spring Klein Girls Softball League College Classic Oct. 3-4. The Cougars will again match up with Galveston College before facing Texas on Saturday. The team concludes its fall tournament play Sunday in a tilt against Baylor and Stephan F. Austin.
