HOUSTON - Fans probably will use many different words to describe the University of Houston football team's game against Texas Tech on Sept 26. However, one word that will be at the top of that list is "packed."
Officials with the Athletics Ticket Office announced Friday afternoon that the 21st-ranked Cougars' showdown against the Red Raiders has been sold out. The Cougars play host to Texas Tech at 8:15 p.m., Sept. 26 on John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium.
It will be the largest crowd to watch the Cougars play in the history of Robertson Stadium, topping the 31,818 fans that watched UH take a 34-20 win against Southern Miss in the 2006 Conference USA Championship.
"This is tremendous and is a testament to our great fan base," director of athletics Mack Rhoades said. "This is only the fourth time in the history of the facility we will have a crowd of more than 30,000, and to do this more than a week in advance of the game is terrific. What we hope for, now, is great crowds like this for the remainder of the season."
The Cougars, who are ranked No. 21 in the latest Associated Press poll, will meet the Red Raiders for the first time since 1995 when both teams competed in the Southwest Conference. UH also looks to improve to 3-0 for the first time since the 2006 squad won each of its first four games.
STUDENT GUEST TICKETS
Although the game has been sold out to the general public, 1,500 student guest tickets will go on sale at 8 a.m., Monday, at the Athletics Ticket Office located on the first floor of the Athletics Alumni Center. Doors to the Athletics/Alumni Center will open at 7 a.m., Monday, for students to begin lining up with tickets being sold one hour later.
Current students with any valid Cougar Card ID can purchase up to four student guest tickets for $20 each. Fans with a student-guest ticket may enter any ticket entrance, and student-guest tickets allow guests to sit in the student or student-overflow sections with the student.
Tickets must be purchased in person and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Each student wishing to purchase guest tickets must be present with any valid Cougar Card ID.
