Volleyball Prepares for Final Weekend of Non-Conference Play

HOUSTON - The University of Houston volleyball team will play their final week of non-conference action when they travel to Texas State on Tuesday and then participate in the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack Invitational over the weekend.
Houston will take on the Bobcats at 6:30 p.m. at Strahan Coliseum in San Marcos, Texas. It marks the only time to two teams will meet this season and the sixth consecutive, after facing off twice in 2008. Houston leads the overall series 26-5, winning the both matches a year ago.
The Bobcats are 3-8 on the season after going 2-1 last weekend at their tournament, the CenturyTel Premier. They also dropped a mid-week match to Baylor, 3-0.
When the two teams take to the court on Tuesday, a familiar face for Kinsey Cave will be on the other side of the net. Her sister, Melinda, is a right side hitter for the Bobcats.
UH then closes out the non-conference slate on Sept. 18-19 at the Ladyjack Invitational. Houston opens play against Alcorn State on Friday at 10 a.m. in the first ever meeting between the two programs.
Tournament play will continue on Friday night when the Cougars take on tournament host Stephen F. Austin at 7 p.m. This is the 19th overall meeting between the two programs, with Houston holding a 16-3 advantage. The Ladyjacks are 7-5 entering the weekend.
The Cougars will close out the tournament against Miami (Ohio) at 6 p.m. on Saturday. This will also mark the first ever meeting between the two programs. The RedHawks hold a 3-6 overall record after going 2-1 last weekend at the Best Western Invitational in Oxford, Ohio.
Houston enters the week with a 2-9 record after knocking off Boise State Saturday afternoon at the Loyola Marymount Crowne Plaza LAX Tournament.
