HOUSTON - The University of Houston volleyball team will continue their month-long road stand, when it travels to Los Angeles, Calif., for the Loyola Marymount Crowne Plaza LAX Tournament on Sept. 11-12.
The weekend marks the second consecutive tournament the Cougars will have played on the road. UH traveled to Tucson, Ariz., last weekend to play at the Wildcat Classic, hosted by Arizona.
The Cougars are coming off two consecutive five-set matches. Despite coming up on the short end in both matches, Houston played their opponents tough, including Kinsey Cave's career-high 21 kills against Sam Houston State on Tuesday. Tara Roenicke also recorded back-to-back double-doubles.
Houston opens play on Friday against tournament host Loyola Marymount at 9 p.m. The Cougars are 0-2 all-time against the Lions, losing the last meeting 3-0 in 1999. LMU enters the weekend with a 4-2 record, having finished 1-2 last weekend.
Tournament play will continue on Saturday against UC Irvine (1 p.m.) and Boise State (7 p.m.).
The Anteaters enter the tournament as the lone ranked team, coming in at No. 20 in the latest AVCA poll. They are 6-0 on the season and are 2-0 all-time against Houston. The last meeting between the two was a 3-2 win by the Anteaters in 2003.
They close out the tournament against the Broncos, for the first ever meeting between the two programs. Boise State has yet to break into the win column this season and are 0-6 entering this weekend.
