Hattiesburg, Miss. - University of Houston sophomore shortstop Blake Kelso was named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team as selected by the league's sports information directors on Monday.
Kelso earns his first selection to the All-Academic Team after posting a 3.42 GPA in economics. He was one of 11 league players to be selected to the team that requires eligible nominees to maintain at least a 3.2 GPA and be a starter of key reserve on their team.
The Pflugerville native leads the team with a .342 batting average, including 11 stolen bases, 16 doubles, three triples and two home runs.
With his selection to the All-Academic team, Kelso becomes the fourth Cougar to be named to the list in its three year history.
Kelso and the Cougars will be back on the field Wednesday at 9 a.m. against UAB for the opening game of the Conference USA Championship in Hattiesburg, Miss.
Fans can hear all games live on UHCougars.com with second-year announcer Jeremy Branham calling the play-by-play action and former UH letterwinner Pat Cauley providing the analysis.
Live stats through game tracker will also be available for all games.
This was only the latest academic honors for the Cougar baseball team. Earlier this spring 11 members of the team were named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll for maintaining a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher.
Those Cougars included Kelso, Michael Goodnight, David Murphy, Zak Presley, Caleb Ramsey, Jared Ray, Carlos Reyes, Matt Taylor, Tom Wertz, Taylor White and former Cougar Jimmy Cesario.
