HOUSTON - After playing six of their last seven games at Cougar Field, the University of Houston baseball team will spend the week of April 13 on the road. The Cougars open the week against Sam Houston State on April 14 before a weekend series at Memphis.
The Cougars take a 4-1 record in their last five road games to Sam Houston State on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. It will be the second match-up between the two teams this season with the Bearkats taking the first contest, 18-16. The four-hour game at Cougar Field saw a combined 42 hits and Chase Dempsay hit a Cougar Field record three doubles.
The Bearkats are 20-13 this season and have won five or their last seven games including a 2-1 finish against Lamar over the weekend.
Freshman Mo Wiley will be making his fourth-straight Tuesday start and his sixth mid-week start this season. He is 2-1 on the year after earning the win over Texas A&M last week. Sam Houston State is expected to start Dallas Gallant. He is 1-3 on the year with an 8.69 ERA.
After playing their last two weekend series at home, the Cougars will travel to Memphis for a three-game series against the Tigers. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and will continue at 2 p.m. on Saturday, with Sunday's finale scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
All three games of the series will be played at USA Stadium in Millington, Tenn., just north of Memphis.
The Tigers will play a mid-week game at Central Arkansas and host Austin Peay before the series against the Cougars. Entering the week Memphis has a 14-20 record, including a 2-1 finish against SIU-Edwardsville last weekend. Memphis is also 3-6 in league play.
Last week the Cougars went 2-2, including a win over then-No.15 Texas A&M at Olsen Field. Wiley pitched 5.1 shutout innings, while striking out a career-high six batters in the win. UH went on to finish 1-2 against Southern Miss over the weekend. The loss to Southern Miss on Friday snapped a seven-game win streak by the Cougars, their longest win streak this season.
