TEAM NOTES • 2009 CONFERENCE USA CHAMPIONSHIP
• The Cougars will play as the No. 5 seed at the 2009 Conference USA Championship, hosted by Memphis at FedExForum on March 11-14.
• The Cougars will face No. 12 seed SMU at 8:30 p.m., Wednesday during the finale of the first day of the 2009 Conference USA Championship.
• This marks the first time since the 2005 Conference USA Championship that the Cougars did not receive a first-round bye... In 2005, the Cougars competed as the No. 6 seed against No. 11 seed UCF.
• This marks the second straight season that the Cougars will face an opponent in the regular-season finale and in their first game at the Conference USA Championship... In 2008, the Cougars lost at UTEP 87-81 on March 8, 2008, and then lost to the Miners 80-77 in the C-USA Championship quarterfinals on March 13, 2008.
TEAM NOTES
• Shooting 58.8 percent (30-of-51) from the field, the Cougars set a season high... It topped the previous of 56.1 percent (32-of-57) at Conference USA-rival UCF (Feb. 4, 2009).
• The Cougars' 58.8 field-goal percentage was the highest since the team hit 61.0 percent (25-of-41) against Conference USA-rival UAB (March 2, 2002).
• With 13 3-pointers, the Cougars set a season high... The total topped their previous best of 11 at Arizona (Jan. 24, 2009), at Mississippi State (Jan. 3, 2009) and against Western Kentucky (Nov. 15, 2008).
• The Cougars' 13 3-pointers were the most since UH hit 16 treys against Valparaiso during the inaugural 2008 College Basketball Invitational quarterfinals at Hofheinz Pavilion (March 24, 2008).
• With 20 assists, the Cougars set a season high... The total topped their previous best of 18 assists at Mississippi State (Jan. 3, 2009).
• The Cougars' 20 assists were the most since the team recorded 21 assists at Conference USA-rival SMU (Jan. 16, 2008).
• With Saturday's win, the Cougars improved to 40-22 (.645) all-time against SMU... In addition, the Cougars improved to 20-6 (.769) against SMU in Houston.
• With Saturday's win, the Cougars won their seventh straight game against SMU... The Cougars have not lost to SMU since a 94-69 setback in Dallas on Dec. 17, 2000.
• With its win on Saturday, UH swept the regular-season series against the Mustangs... The Cougars enjoyed a 69-56 win at SMU on Feb. 11, 2009.
• This is the fourth consecutive year that the Cougars played SMU in basketball... The series has been played at least once every year since the 2005-06 season.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
• Senior center Marcus Cousin and senior guard DaShaun Williams competed in their final regular-season games at Hofheinz Pavilion... The duo was honored in pregame ceremonies for Senior Night.
• With seven 3-pointers, sophomore guard Zamal Nixon more than doubled his previous single-game high... His total topped his previous best of three treys set against Conference USA-rival Tulane (Jan. 24, 2009) and at Conference USA-rival UCF (Feb. 2, 2008).
• With seven assists, sophomore guard Zamal Nixon tied his career high... His total equaled his best set at Conference USA-rival SMU (Feb. 11, 2009) and against Middle Tennessee (Dec. 1, 2007).
• With nine 3-point attempts, sophomore guard Zamal Nixon set a personal best... His total topped his previous high of eight attempts at Conference USA-rival UCF (Feb. 2, 2008).
• With 22 points and 11 rebounds, junior guard Aubrey Coleman recorded his team-leading 12th double-double of the season and of his career.

• Going 2-of-2 from the free throw line, junior center Nick Mosley has hit his last 22 free throw attempts... His total topped his previous high of four assists against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Jan. 6, 2009).
• Playing 30 minutes, junior center Nick Mosley set a personal high.. His total topped his previous best of 26 minutes against Memphis (Jan. 11, 2007).
HEAD COACH Tom Penders NOTES
• With Saturday's win, head coach Tom Penders earned the 100th victory of his career at the University of Houston... He joined Guy V. Lewis (592 wins, 1956-86; Pat Foster (142, 1986-93) and Alden Pasche (135, 1946-56) as the only UH coaches to reach triple digits in wins.
• With Saturday's win, head coach Tom Penders improved to 627-420 (.599) during his career... Penders also improved to 100-59 (.629) during his UH tenure.
• With Saturday's win, head coach Tom Penders improved to 24-2 (.923) against SMU during his career... That breaks down to 7-0 at Houston and 17-2 (.895) during his tenure at Texas.
• With Saturday's win, head coach Tom Penders improved to 11-1 (.917) all-time in home games against SMU... That breaks down to 4-0 at Houston and 7-1 (.875) at Texas.
• With Saturday's win, head coach Tom Penders improved to 49-29 (.628) in Conference USA games during his career... Penders also improved to 269-161 (.626) in all conference games during his career.
