Baseball Takes Series Win Over Tulane With 4-3 Win

New Orleans, La. - The University of Houston baseball team won the final game of a three-game series against Tulane on Sunday afternoon, 4-3, at Turchin Stadium.
The Cougars relief pitchers of Jared Ray and Donnie Joseph came into hold the Green Wave to just one hit in 6.2 innings, while striking out 10 batters. Ray went home with the win to improve to 1-2 on the year and Joseph notched his third save.
Trailing 3-2 entering the seventh inning, Houston scored two runs to take the lead from the Green Wave. Blake Kelso tied up the ball game, 3-3, after leading off with a walk and scoring on a double down the left field line from Caleb Ramsey. Zak Presley advanced Kelso to second on a sacrifice bunt. Dempsay struck out swinging but a wild pitch by Tulane pitcher Ryan Doiron gave Ramsey the chance to advance to third base and he would score on a single to second base from William Kankel.
Down 3-1, with two outs, Houston pulled within on run of a tie when Chase Dempsay scored on a double to center field by Ty Stuckey.
Houston opened the game scoring a run for the second time this series. Kelso scored the Cougars opening run of the game on a single to center field from Caleb Ramsey after being walked to start Houston's first at bat. In the bottom of the inning, Tulane loaded the bases with one out but Steven Moritz hit into a double play for the Green Wave and Houston got out of the inning allowing only one run.
The Green Wave broke the tie in the third inning, scoring two runs behind three-straight singles proceeded by a walk with one out.
With the win, Houston improves to 9-17 on the season and 4-2 in conference play. They have now won both C-USA series this season.
LOOKING AHEAD
Houston will travel to San Antonio for a Tuesday match-up against UTSA on March 1. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. Following the mid-week game, the Cougars will return to Cougar Field for a weekend series against UT-Pan Am on April 3-5.
