Softball Travels West for C-USA Series Against UTEP

HOUSTON--The University of Houston softball team will travel to El Paso, Texas to compete in a three-game Conference USA series against UTEP beginning on Saturday at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. CT. The final game will be played on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.
Houston (12-12, 3-2 C-USA) enters the series after splitting Wednesday's doubleheader with Texas, winning the second game, 5-0 with senior Laurie Wagner and Christa Raley and freshman Melissa Gregson all hitting solo home runs.
Senior Elaina Nordstrom remains the leader in batting average at .368. She has hit two doubles and two home runs this season. Wagner leads the team in RBI at 19 and currently holds a .299 batting average.
Senior Jessica Valis has team-high 25 hits and 85 at-bats. She has hit three doubles and one triple this season. Senior Haley Valis has hit eight doubles this season, tied with the fifth most in the conference.
Gregson currently leads the Cougars in home runs at six, while Raley is in second at five.
Sophomore Amanda Crabtree is 7-7 this season in the circle with 79 strikeouts and one save. Sophomore Baillie Lott has an ERA of 2.59, and a 5-5 record.
The Miners (13-15, 2-4 C-USA) enter the series after being swept last weekend by Conference USA-rival Marshall, 7-6, 8-5 and 8-0 in five innings.
UTEP enters this weekend's series 13-15, with two players batting above a .400. Camilla Carrera leads the Miners with her batting average of .439 with nine doubles, one triple and six home runs this season.
Chelsea Troupe is batting .420 with 37 hits, six of which are doubles and eight are home runs. She leads the team in RBI with 26. Troupe is also perfect on stolen bases having stolen 10 bases so far this season.
As a team, the Miners have hit 35 home runs and 42 doubles.
Stacie Townsend is leading in the circle with her ERA of 4.43 and 7-10 record. She has struck out 99 this season and has recorded two saves.
Kelly Curran is 5-4 this season with 47 strikeouts in 64.2 innings pitched.
