Softball Set to Host Tulsa in Three-Game Conference Series

HOUSTON--The University of Houston softball team will host Tulsa Saturday and Sunday for a three-game Conference USA series that will now begin on Saturday at 3 p.m. due to rain in the forecast. The second game is scheduled for 5 p.m., and the third game is slated to begin Sunday at noon.
Houston (9-11, 1-2 C-USA) enters the series after a 1-2 finish at East Carolina. Houston lost games one and three and won the second game 3-1.
Senior Elaina Nordstrom leads the Cougars in batting average at .386. She has 17 hits, two doubles and two home runs. She is second on the team in RBIs at 12.
Senior Jessica Valis leads the team with at-bats (71) and hits (22). She has hit two doubles and a triple this season. Senior Laurie Wagner has a team-high 17 RBIs, including three home runs.
Sophomore Amanda Crabtree is 5-6 this season with 58 strikeouts, while sophomore Baillie Lott is 45 with 23 strikeouts.
Tulsa (15-6, 3-0 C-USA) is coming off a great start to the conference season after they swept UCF last weekend. The first game of the series went to 11 innings, but Tulsa ultimately took the win, 7-6. Games two and three were easier for the Golden Hurricane. Tulsa won the second game, 7-2 and the third, 8-2.
Jordan Kinard picked up her first C-USA Pitcher of the Week on Monday after striking out 13 Knight batters, and allowing only two earned runs on four hits.
Jackie Lawrence is 7-2 this season with 64 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.93.
Lauren Lindsay leads the Golden Hurricane in the batter's box with her batting average of .415. She has 27 hits this season, six doubles and five home runs. She also leads in RBIs with 18.
Brooke Smart, who has a .368 batting average, also picked up her first C-USA Hitter of the Week after going 12-for-16 last week with two doubles and drove in seven runs.
