SPRING, Texas - The University of Houston golf team plays host to the All-American Intercollegiate at Cypresswood Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday.
The 54-hole tournament begins with the first 36 holes at 8:30 a.m., Monday and wraps up with the final 18 holes, starting at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday on the par-72, 7,220-yard course on the Tradition course.
The Cougars welcome some of the nation's top collegiate teams with Cal State-Northridge, Jacksonville State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee, New Mexico State, North Texas, Sam Houston State, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas Southern, Texas State and UALR scheduled to compete.
This marks the fourth straight season the Cougars have played host to this event after a 10-year hiatus.
A year ago, Middle Tennessee fired a final-round score of 297 to win the team total by one stroke against UALR. UALR's Brian Whittle captured medalist honors with a score of 211 to finish eight strokes ahead of his closest competitor.
The Cougars come into this week's tournament after finishing fourth at the Rice Intercollegiate last week. Junior Ben Moser leads the Cougar lineup after finishing third at the spring-season-opening Rice Intercollegiate last week.
The Windsor, Ontario, native grabbed the first-day lead at that tournament after shooting 69-68 through the first two rounds and leads the Cougars with a 72.5 scoring average.
Sophomore Clark Mitzner finished in a tie for 18th at the Rice Intercollegiate, shooting a 69 in the second round. The McKinney native ranks fourth among the Cougars with a 76.1 scoring average.
Junior Jackie Lindsey ranks second on the team with a 75.0 scoring average and tied for 21st at the Rice Intercollegiate.
